This is the full UK-approved Permaculture Design Certificate course, covering Permaculture principles and applications in both urban and rural locations. It has the same content and many of the same tutors as our summer intensive 12 day PDC but is more modular in nature and 7 of the 11 days are in Dublin City centre locations. (The aim is making a PDC more accessible for working people, parents, unemployed people, and for those for whom 12 days camping/glamping would be daunting.)
Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September
Cost: 100 euro for non garden members, (with a 50 euro deposit option -pay balance on the day)

A two day workshop with Permaculture teacher Hannah Mole and Flanagan’s fields’ community gardeners, supported by Slow Food Dublin. Focusing on using Permaculture design as an environmental approach to urban gardening and food production.
-Key Permaculture design concepts- Starting points, what to consider, natural design patterns.
-Key practical skills - composting, water harvesting, food growing, seed saving, etc
-Useful and Inspirational Ideas - upcycling, portable gardens for renters, visioning and community decision making, companion planting, and more...
Learning How to:
- Maximize the potential of small spaces
- Build and maintain low or no-cost gardens
- Produce fresh local food
- Design and create your own beautiful and productive urban - garden, yard, balcony or window sill!
- Design productive and functional urban landscapes.
Flanagans Fields Community Garden has been run by volunteers and gardeners from the local community for the last seven years. This garden is a great example of how community can benefit from urban greening and the regeneration of urban land. It has become a living site for experimentation, education and community gathering with an ever growing number of collaborators, volunteers and gardeners generously contributing their time, knowledge and passion.
‘Permaculture gardening goes far beyond ‘landscaping’ or maintaining a vegetable plot. In an urban context it works to integrate the abundant resources of people and community, city ‘waste’ streams, unique micro-climates, and more, with growing healthy and nutritious food locally, creating art and celebration, and building community in ways that are environmentally regenerative- providing refuge for pollinators (and humans!), contributing to air quality, responsibly collecting and using rainwater and so on, and on top of that, are beautiful too!’
In this workshop you will learn the nuts and bolts of a permaculture approach: the patterns and principles drawn from natural eco-systems which help us to design our own productive, functional, resilient and creative spaces.
It will be useful to anyone with an active interest in environmental and productive urban gardening or landscaping in a private or community garden and in public spaces.
